Isn’t It Time to Run Again, Yet?

There is nothing like watching your horse win a race–but the glow only lasts for three weeks. Lest we forget, here is another winning shot:

But what do horse owners do in between races? Apparently go out and watch their horses run in circles. So here are pictures of just that. Schiller’s Pass is first, behaving the way horses are supposed to behave.

There is nothing like watching your horse win a race! Dunraven Pass, our bionic horse, broke his maiden at Indiana Downs on April 18. I’m thinking it is the beginning of something special! You go, Big Boy!

Attached is a link to the winning video. It is race number 10; he’s number 6–blue and white silks–5th on the back side, 4th at the top of the stretch–and then just watch. Okay, so Dunraven Pass came in third after spotting the rest of the field six lengths. He now understands going left, then right and then straight is a bad idea–always. He also now knows that he doesn’t get his picture taken when he does stupid things. But his stable mates–they do get their picture taken–again and again! Schiller’s Pass first poses on his way out to the track–and if you hit the “more” button, you’ll see him and his stablemates trucking on the track!

Schiller’s Pass is trucking here with other horses; he is the one with the blue saddle cloth–out front, of course!

And the next two are Unbridled Logic and Foot Patrol moving down the track as well. The first is of them moving down the lane, the second is of them still trucking.

We’re Running Again

Holy Cow–we’re running–two months in a row! And Dunraven Pass didn’t break a leg in between. It must be a good omen. With luck, the next post will start with “Holy Moley Cow.” Here’s hoping! In the meantime, here’s the most recent picture of DRP, followed by some new pictures of the babies. And yes, under the Rose Colored Horses tab, there are new videos. Some would say they look the same. Who cares?

Second–by three-quarters of a length. We have one picture of the race itself, thanks to one of the owners who took it off You Tube. We were too busy jumping aroung during the race to take any pictures! He did great, came back great with all legs intact, and is ready to go again. One day I’ll post the video out here. We’re Running!

DRP Down the Track Up Close

Dunraven Pass is running! Nine months, sixteen days — and four screws — since his last race, he is ready to go! Short story: Monday, Turfway Park, 8th race, 5th hole, Maiden Special Weight. He is the second favorite–in what the odds’ maker have determined is a three horse race.

The long story is: Holy Cow! We’re running! Walter would rather go a mile on grass, but we need DRP to run in Kentucky first. The vets have watched him lolligag as he comes out of his stall and now understand that until it is time to run, DRP can’t be bothered to do anything fast! So, we’re running in Kentucky, going six furlongs on the polytrack. After nine months and 16 days, I think I will take it. With luck–and perhaps the right lucky earrings–there will be a new post on Tuesday that starts with “Holy Moley Cow!” While there are all kinds of reasons why we won’t win, I think it is time. After all, we are talking about Dunraven Pass–the horse who just refuses to quit.

And yes, the babies are fine and there is still a book for sale–but for today–it is all about Dunraven Pass. Click on the book tab, and then the You Tube tab on the left, to see a video of DRP’s workout on Friday. He looks great–and the commentary is just darn exciting. You go, Big Boy!

Ever Closer!

The two year olds are getting better–and miraculously are all still colts; Dunraven Pass is ready to race; be still my heart.

At times, Unbridled Logic can’t help himself. Yes, he is the one in the middle. But usually, by the second time around, he is fighting for the lead, with Schiller’s Pass stalking him until the very end. Amazingly, on Friday, even Foot Patrol kept up. I’ve dropped in a couple more pictures, because they are just darn pretty to look at. The first is Schiller’s Pass on the way out to the track.

And then there is Dunraven Pass. He is ready. He will run soon–this month, if we are lucky. You’ll know when I know. Yes, we’re superstitious, so that is all I have to say about that! Yes, you’ve seen this picture, but he deserves his few seconds of glory too!

The horses are a year older–and with luck–closer to being ready to race! The babies have graduated from running around in ovals to going out on the track three times a week. Some are better at it than others!

Schiller’s Pass seems to get it; it takes UnBridled Logic once around to get with the program; and Foot Patrol needs to work at it a bet harder. All three are good at mugging for the camera, however.

Schiller’s Pass got the financial responsibility talk–not only from me but from one of his others owners as well. If he is anything like his full brother, Dunraven Pass, we just may have a horse!
He is beautiful–and seems to better understand how to remain a colt–more so than his stable mates, Foot Patrol and Unbridled Logic. I’m hoping all three are still colts this time next month!

However, the star of the barn is Dunraven Pass. If the weather holds–which is always a big “if”, the next bit of news will be about where Dunraven Pass’s first race back is going to be. Yes, we’re superstitious, so I won’t say more. But my heart is in my throat and my stomach is already in knots. Yes, we think this is fun. Perhaps we need counseling!!
Until more, just admire this pretty boy–resting after a stellar breeze. With luck, you’ll be hearing from me soon!

Horses–They Are a Good Thing!

The babies are running in circles; Dunraven Pass is training for real; the human owners are impatiently waiting for all of them to earn their keep. In the meantime, this owner is hawking a book! Babies running in circles make for boring pictures. In the latest Horse Alert, there are pictures of Foot Patrol listening attentively to his “Financial and Social Obligation” talk–Part 1, notwithstanding my bad hat hair issues, and of Unbridled Logic looking at me with devil eyes; Schiller’s Pass wouldn’t even look at me! But DRP–he posed for a picture after his work out–well, at least he let us take a picture while he ate! And we have videos of him actually running on the track! Click on the “Rose Colored Horses” tab, then the YouTube tab to see riveting footage!
