I think we’re back.  We’re ready!

DRP Down the Track Up Close

Dunraven Pass is running!  Nine months, sixteen days — and four screws — since his last race, he is ready to go!  Short story:  Monday, Turfway Park, 8th race, 5th hole, Maiden Special Weight.  He is the second favorite–in what the odds’ maker have determined is a three horse race.

The long story is:  Holy Cow!  We’re running!  Walter would rather go a mile on grass, but we need DRP to run in Kentucky first. The vets have watched him lolligag as he comes out of his stall and now understand that until it is time to run, DRP can’t be bothered to do anything fast!  So, we’re running in Kentucky, going six furlongs on the polytrack.  After nine months and 16 days, I think I will take it.  With luck–and perhaps the right lucky earrings–there will be a new post on Tuesday that starts with “Holy Moley Cow!”  While there are all kinds of reasons why we won’t win, I think it is time.  After all, we are talking about Dunraven Pass–the horse who just refuses to quit.

And yes, the babies are fine and there is still a book for sale–but for today–it is all about Dunraven Pass.  Click on the book tab, and then the You Tube tab on the left, to see a video of DRP’s workout on Friday.  He looks great–and the commentary is just darn exciting.  You go, Big Boy!

The two year olds are getting better–and miraculously are all still colts; Dunraven Pass is ready to race; be still my heart.

At times, Unbridled Logic can’t help himself.  Yes, he is the one in the middle.  But usually, by the second time around, he is fighting for the lead, with Schiller’s Pass stalking him until the very end.  Amazingly, on Friday, even Foot Patrol kept up.  To see a video of this marvel, click on the “Rose Colored Horses” tab and then click on the You Tube button.  You can see for yourself–and enjoy the scintillating commentary!  I’ve dropped in a couple more pictures, because they are just darn pretty to look at.  The first is Schiller’s Pass on the way out to the track.

And then there is Dunraven Pass.  He is ready.  He will run soon–this month, if we are lucky.  You’ll know when I know.  Yes, we’re superstitious, so that is all I have to say about that!  Yes, you’ve seen this picture, but he deserves his few seconds of glory too!

Schiller’s Pass seems to get it; it takes UnBridled Logic once around to get with the program; and Foot Patrol needs to work at it a bet harder. All three are good at mugging for the camera, however.

Schiller’s Pass got the financial responsibility talk–not only from me but from one of his others owners as well. If he is anything like his full brother, Dunraven Pass, we just may have a horse!
He is beautiful–and seems to better understand how to remain a colt–more so than his stable mates, Foot Patrol and Unbridled Logic. I’m hoping all three are still colts this time next month!

However, the star of the barn is Dunraven Pass. If the weather holds–which is always a big “if”, the next bit of news will be about where Dunraven Pass’s first race back is going to be. Yes, we’re superstitious, so I won’t say more. But my heart is in my throat and my stomach is already in knots. Yes, we think this is fun. Perhaps we need counseling!!

The babies are running in circles; Dunraven Pass is training for real; the human owners are impatiently waiting for all of them to earn their keep.  In the meantime, this owner is hawking a book!  Babies running in circles make for boring pictures.  In the latest Horse Alert, there are pictures of Foot Patrol listening attentively to his “Financial and Social Obligation” talk–Part 1, notwithstanding my bad hat hair issues, and of Unbridled Logic looking at me with devil eyes; Schiller’s Pass wouldn’t even look at me!  But DRP–he posed for a picture after his work out–well, at least he let us take a picture while he ate!  And we have videos of him actually running on the track!  Click on the “Rose Colored Horses” tab, then the YouTube tab to see riveting footage!  For your own copy of the Horse Alert, sign up as a subscriber; for a book–go right back to that “Rose Colored Horses” tab–and buy as many as you like–I deliver locally; ship otherwise!  Till later, have a wonderful Christmas holiday.  And if you have horses running, good luck!!

And so, on October 20, 2011, all four are healthy, happy and running in ovals.  I’m going to celebrate–Cheers!

The first horse is  a Lion Heart Colt; the second one is a full brother to Dunraven Pass and the third horse is a Badge of Silver Colt.  Yes, the Lion Heart Colt and DRP’s baby brother look alike–and both look like DRP.  Thank heavens the Badge of Silver Colt is almost black.  Hopefully some time next week they will all have names.  We are beyond excited.  And, of course, looking through my rose-colored glasses, they are all Derby hopefuls for 2013!  It must be time to pick up where I left off on that second book.  Hope–it truly does spring eternal!
